One of the best things about volunteering at our neighborhood Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE): if you don’t mind putting in the work, they’ll let you get away with murder. Eagles Prom was held on May 30, 2026, at the FOE. The idea was pretty simple - to host a dance for adults that didn’t suck or, at least, wasn’t as bad as a high school dance.
Maybe you had a good time at your high school prom. Fine. But I remember my high school prom as a uniquely loathsome event. My rental tux came with sock garters, and I wore them because I wanted to get my money’s worth. I’m afraid the girls had it worse, though. At least I could rent my get-up. They had to buy a super expensive dress that can only be worn the one time. The dance itself wasn’t much better. Half the time, the dance floor was empty because everyone was too terrified to break the seal and be the first one out there.
So this time, this was our prom, our chance to make it actually fun. We had a signature cocktail, a live DJ, and chaperones to ensure our ‘students’ didn’t get too nasty on the dance floor. And of course, there were glamour shots.
Like everything at our FOE, everything is run by volunteers. And this one put the Eagles’ Prom Committee through their paces, what with all the planning, advertising, ticket sales, and organizing. So, a big thanks to our FOE volunteers for really bringing this one home. They make this event a super special evening that no one will forget (for better or worse).

What a blast! I think it was a big success. It was a real treat to see everybody bring the heat in their most glamorous getups. Jaclyn even fit into my sister‘s prom dress from 1988! And some folks even rented a limo to arrive in true style — it was a classy move.

People are already asking if we’re going to have another prom next year. Judging by these photos, that sounds like a good idea. Maybe next year, I’ll actually sell some tickets? Hard to say.
